Led Buccaneers dominate Bears in opener

The rise of running back Jordan Howard last season gives Glennon an excellent safety net to build in-game chemistry with his wide receivers.

Noah Spence sacked Glennon, forcing a second-quarter fumble that led to Jacquizz Rodgers’ 1-yard TD run.

“Mike Glennon will be our starting quarterback against Pittsburgh and we’re going to do everything we can to get him prepared”, Fox said.

Of course, perhaps protecting Trubisky is part of Fox’s plan – the Bears’ next five games are all against good teams with solid defenses: Steelers, Packers, Vikings, Ravens and Panthers.

“Every experience, every situation is unique”, Fox said.

Unfortunately, Leonard Floyd appeared to take a step backwards versus the Bucs, struggling to get off blocks all day, Danny Trevathan is clearly not 100 percent yet, Pernell McPhee is not the player he was before his latest knee woes, and losing Nick Kwiatkoski with the pectoral injury really hurt after he got off to a decent start. So much for the good feelings from last week’s narrow loss to Atlanta.

Jackson joined Chicago as a fourth-round selection in the NFL Draft in April, while Howard was the 19 player picked, taken by Tampa Bay even though the Bucs had a tight end in Cameron Brate who caught 57 passes for 660 yards and eight touchdowns in 2016. The Bears have now lost 15 of their last 16 games when they’ve had a negative turnover ratio dating back to 2015.

Injuries continue to pile up for the Bears.

– Jameis Winston concedes it felt a little odd watching the rest of the National Football League begin the season while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were scattered around the country for an unscheduled bye imposed by Hurricane Irma. Gase said he hadn’t talked with Timmons: “I’m kind of dealing with the guys that played”. If they do, we haven’t seen it yet.

Fox hinted that it’s not just his decision to make. It was great. We had a lot of one-on-one opportunities. In Week 4 of the 2014 National Football League season, Glennon started in place of an injured Josh McNown against the Steelers at Heinz Field and while he only completed 21 of his 42 pass attempts in that game, he threw for 302 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Bears tight Zach Miller added: “I don’t think this falls exclusively on Mike’s shoulders”.

The score and the stats don’t tell the story of how rough this game was. But that’s where we’re at right now.

How will Fox know when it is time to make a quarterback change? Coming into Sunday’s game versus the Bucs, I had envisioned writing a section of my presser on how Mike Glennon came back to his old stomping grounds and played lights-out, not how his performance would make me wish for the debut of Trubisky. As a tandem, Cohen and Howard averaged 1.3 yards per carry.

“It’s a timing thing”, said Miller, a college quarterback. The Buccaneers hit hard early and often.
