His mother, Anne Smith, was among those gathered outside the jail on Monday.

On Twitter on Monday, the group said: “We are human and we will make mistakes”.
The St. Louis Police Department tweeted Friday evening that the protests were “no longer considered peaceful”, as protesters threw bottles at officers, smashed police vehicle windshields, largely ignored officers’ requests to clear a roadway – ultimately leaving at least four cops with minor injuries. Hundreds of people marched through downtown streets, the posh Central West End and the trendy Delmar Loop area of nearby University City. We will be nonviolent but we will not settle on peace.
St. Louis was also the scene of violent protests in 2014 following the police killing of black teenager Michael Brown in the suburb of Ferguson.
Independent Journal Review will keep you updated as events unfold in St. Louis. The other seven ranged in age from 22 to 37 years old.
On Sunday night, hundreds of officers amassed at one intersection and arrested more than 80 people who they said had not followed orders to disperse.
After Sunday’s demonstrations, the organizers announced that the daytime protests had concluded, but “a group of agitators stayed behind, apparently intent on breaking windows and destroying property”, according to Krewson.
Multiple witnesses reported that police shouted the now-ubiquitous protest chant “Whose streets?”
Although many, like Smith’s mother, were hoping for a guilty verdict, protesters were ready to demonstrate in case of the opposite outcome – which could’ve been expected. “We’re in control. This is our city, and we’re going to protect it”, he says.
The Republican governor warned Sunday on Facebook that the authorities will not let property damage go unchecked.
Video has emerged of protesters in St Louis running in fear as they are chased after by police officers firing projectiles into the crowd.
Stockley and his partner chased Smith, who was shot five times in his auto.
Thirty-three people were charged after protests Saturday.
Like U2, Ed Sheeran has also canceled his concert in St. Louis because of safety concerns.
Twenty-three people were arrested as of 6 p.m. Friday.

Cory Bush, the social worker who organized the die-in, told the crowd assembled Saturday that media reports focused too heavily on the vandalism from the night before. The area is known for restaurants, shops and bars.
