Los Angeles Rams prevail in thriller over San Francisco 49ers

The Rams held a 41-26 lead in the fourth quarter and survived two late San Francisco touchdowns thanks to a failed two-point conversion and fourth-down sack after the 49ers recovered an onside kick. There’s something to be said for offenses starting to coalesce in Week 3, playing more like the regular season and less like an extended preseason.

After the 49ers game the Rams go back on the road when they face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, October 1, at 10 a.m. on FOX (Channel 11). “I think we left a lot more points off the board”. He also threw for 332 yards and two touchdowns.

While it may not be the most exciting of games- neither in team performance nor stadium atmosphere- those willing to spare a $20 should take advantage of this all-time low ticket price.

Thursday night started off about as bad as you could imagine for Niners bettors, with quarterback Brian Hoyer throwing an interception deep in Niners territory seconds into the game to hand the Rams a quick seven-point lead. They played well defensively in the latter, and almost stole one on the road – falling 12-9 to the Seahawks.

Even with the Rams flying on offense, the 49ers remained within striking distance due to their work inside the 2-yard line on both sides of the field in the third quarter.

Hoyer’s pass was intercepted on opening drive by N. Robey-Coleman. The ball distribution was also impeccable.

Rookie wide receiver Trent Taylor had three catches for 32 yards.

The Rams are 2-1 and the offense, which was dead last in the National Football League a season ago, has looked impressive.

Carlos Hyde is the lone bright spot for this offense.

Gurley had five catches for 36 yards and a score and had over 100 yards rushing with two touchdowns on the ground.

But as the clock ticked closer to zero, you sensed a lack of confidence with the defense on the field versus Goff, Todd Gurley, and Sammy Watkins or anyone else on it. Robert Woods was impressive with 108 receiving yards even though he didn’t find the end zone.

And the man who needs to be credited for this is Jared Goff.

Game officials pulled the teams off the field with 33 seconds remaining in the first quarter, with the Broncos leading 7-0. What he’s done thus far during the year may make it easier for San Francisco to move on from the injured Reid, who is an impending free agent. They will probably be fighting for the playoffs. San Francisco is last in the National Football League in total offense (232.5 ypg) and somehow not-quite-last in scoring, ranking 31st with 12 points on four field goals through two weeks.

Still though, the Rams defense is going to have to be consistently better than what it showed Thursday night. San Francisco went for it on 4th and goal, with Hyde rushing in for the 1-yard touchdown.

The way the game started, it looked like the Rams were going to cruise to another blowout victory, capitalizing on turnovers as they did in a 46-9 win over the Colts to open the season.

Gaining an extended week, the 49ers will gear up for another divisional test, this time in Arizona against the Cardinals (1-1).
