They will now make a third straight postseason appearance for the first time since 1906-08.

Members of the Chicago Cubs celebrate after defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in a baseball game to clinch the National League Central title Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, in St. Louis. “It was not his night”.

In the process, he kicked the nachos out of nacho man’s hands!

Lester can pitch well anywhere, and has. Antioch Community High School and Illinois State graduate Paul DeJong followed with a run-scoring single to center (-.092), but Lackey was able to quell the threat with a double play and a groundout.

The Cubs left their scent at Busch Stadium, and that scent was the sweet smell of champagne.

Cubs have won all four of John Lackey’s starts this season against the St. Louis. “That’s not my plan”. Nunez, meanwhile, aggravated a right knee injury that had kept him out of Boston’s previous 13 games.

Lackey (12-11) retired the final 10 batters he faced. In his three full pro seasons, his combined inning totals have been 105 1/3, 119 1/3 and, this year, 133 1/3.

Arrieta hasn’t been bad in the postseason, but this will be his third time. Addison Russell takes Wacha deep for a three-run home to take the lead. Chicago stopped his streak of winning seven consecutive starts, the longest by any Cardinals rookie since Ted Wilks in 1944.

On the mound tonight for the Cubs will be Jon Lackey (11-11, 4.67 ERA) with Michael Wacha (12-8, 4.00 ERA) getting the start for the Cardinals. And that’s including two recent outliers-2015, when his ERA was 4.50 and 2014 when it was an unsightly 7.36 (only one start).

Tommy La Stella also had a RBI double.

Russell was happy to oblige, with the fan later tweeting the night had been unforgettable. We know what we have to do as a team. “And dealing with success is not easy”.

Looping in the Indians, this is the first time since 2002 (D-Backs and Yankees) that each defending league champion has won its division.

I hope we’re all on the same page here.

METS 7, BRAVES 1 Terry Collins was a winner in perhaps his final home game as New York manager as his team beat visiting Atlanta behind rookie pitcher Robert Gsellman. Colorado must lose out for the rest of the season and St. Louis must win its remaining games. But better. He allowed one run in six innings in St. Louis on Monday.
