St. Anthony Park Elementary in St. Paul, Gordon Bailey Elementary in Woodbury and Lake Marion in Lakeville are three of this year’s 342 “Blue Ribbon” schools.
“You are visionaries, innovators and leaders”, DeVos said in a written statement to the winners. Agents from the triumphant schools will go to Washington D.C.in November for a honor service.
State Superintendent Tony Evers nominated the eight public schools last fall, with the one private school nominated through the Council for American Private Education.
Emerick Elementary, Hickory High, Midway Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, Stonehouse Elementary, and Union Hall Elementary were the public schools that recivied the distinction.
It has been named a Top Gains School by the state and was a national Blue Ribbon School in 2008.
When preparing for the application, he said he asked teachers and staff brainstorm about all the programs and resources available to students.
Thursday afternoon, Paddock Road Elementary School Principal Scott Becker stood beaming before students, staff and district representatives packed into the school’s gymnasium.
Principal Bob McBride said the achievement “crystallizes the efforts of everyone” involved.
“All our students knew what the Blue Ribbon meant to us”, Cho said.
“I want to extend my appreciation to Dr. Styles for her leadership, the faculty and staff for their hard work and commitment, all of the students for their dedication and the support of the entire Skyland Community”.
The school was notified January 31 that the school was designated and Exemplary High Performing School making it eligible to apply for Blue Ribbon status.
“These two District exemplars epitomize innovation, partnership and school communities that believe, achieve, and are united in creating learning environments that are recognized at the highest level in the nation”, said Chief Academic Officer Frances Gipson in the statement. In total, 242 schools received the honor.
Some private and charter schools also won Blue Ribbons.
