Sam: Jaguars models of inconsistency, fall to Jets in OT

They’re still searching after Sunday’s 23-20 overtime loss at MetLife Stadium – and now it’s time to start wondering if that’s the kind of team the Jaguars are going to be in 2017.

Thought to be one of the worst teams in the league only two weeks ago, NY has made a stark turnaround the last two games at home.

The Jets (1-2) posted their first win of the season with a surprisingly dominant 20-6 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 3.

The Jets’ offense came roaring back following the Fournette touchdown, albeit with some luck.

IDENTITY: Have the Jets discovered an identity after their second-straight win?

“I feel like we did better in the second half, but we just have to start out fast”, Jack said.

Lachlan Edwards was back to punt, but he caught the ball, and threw a wobbly pass down the right side to cornerback Marcus Williams. NY outgained the Jaguars 471-311 in total yards, including 256-175 on the ground. Four plays later, Chandler Catanzaro hit a 41-yard field goal. After the teams traded field goals to make it 10-10, McGuire busted through the heart of the Jaguars’ defense and raced 69 yards to give the Jets a 17-10 lead with 10:13 left in the third quarter.

On first down, ball was tossed to Bilal Powell for a quick gain and he was promptly shoe-stringed tackled to the ground… The Jets did get the ball and there was good pressure from the defensive line, McCown recovered a strip sack from Dante Fowler. “It was a busted play and they scored”. And he missed the kick. The in overtime, Marqise Lee dropped a pass that would have positioned the Jaguars in field goal range and Paul Posluszny was flagged for a 15-yard penalty that set up the game-winning field goal. He benefited by starting the game due to the injury to Matt Forte and he took advantage. After the Browns next week, the Jets play the Patriots, and still ahead are games against formidable opponents like the Falcons, Panthers, Chiefs and Broncos. He opened up the game with a touchdown on the first drive and finished with 24 carries for 59 yards.

Not only did the unit make the big plays, but it ran the ball effectively on all three downs. The Jets need to maintain a run game in order to run an effective offense, and Powell and McGuire allow them to do that more than Forte. Using Powell to move the ball downfield, the Jets were able to slice through the Jaguars’ defense. Bend, but don’t break. “It’s a tough defense to run against”. Most Jets fans have believed that if you involve Powell, good things will happen. Except the Jets were held to a three-and-out and the Jaguars forced a punt.
