Liverpool produced one of the performances of the English Premier League season as they edged past leaders Manchester City in a thrilling 4-3 win at Anfield ending the blues’ 284 days and 30 games of unbeaten run.

Liverpool led 4-1 midway through the second half thanks to goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah – the last three of which came in an eight-minute spell around the hour mark.

City, who still lead second-placed Manchester United by 15 points, gave almost as good as they got, with Leroy Sane getting a deserved equaliser just before halftime and Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan ensuring a nail-biting finish.

This loss did not affect Manchester City’s leadership as they are still on the top of the table with 62 points – ahead of their rival Manchester United by 15 points.

Liverpool ended Manchester City’s unbeaten run in domestic competition this season in typically dramatic fashion. We only can get three points.

Liverpool condemned Manchester City to their first Premier League defeat of the season on Sunday while Alexis Sanchez neared the exit door as Arsenal slipped to a damaging defeat at struggling Bournemouth. When they save the team?

Liverpool started brightly, with Sadio Mane failing to make the most of an early opening after he beat the offside trap.

“The Man City goalkeeper probably caused Salah’s goal and he is still a world-class goalkeeper”. They are just strong and really good but I really think we deserved the win against a really good team.

“A huge win, City with the form that they’re in, going for the league, not just the league because we know they’re going to win the league, but going for the Invincible tag”.

“Or you can look at it and say ‘wow, what the f**k was that – unbelievable!”

Luis Garcia, a Champions League and FA Cup-winner with Liverpool, admitted that it was hard for even him to keep his nerves calm when watching his former side. It is a nice commercial for Premier League football and the whole world was watching.

“Congratulations Liverpool for the victory”, said Pep.

“(Mohamed) Salah and (Sadio) Mane are tough guys for us to control, especially when we lose the ball in risky positions, because they are so fast, so quick and so clever in the box.
