Winter weather advisory issued for Tuesday

It’s nowhere near the strength or size of the storm that brought the heavy snow 2 weeks ago. Rainfall totals will generally be under a half inch in the Northern San Joaquin Valley, with up to three quarter inches over the mountains tonight and Tuesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky.

It’s going to be cold this week.

Roads will become snow covered and slippery, and with cold temperatures, the snow will stick around for a couple of days. Weather experts are saying there is a strong possibility that snow and sleet could hit the ArkLaTex Tuesday afternoon. The temperature on Wednesday night will dip into the teens.

Monday’s high in Temple is expected to reach about 60 degrees with temperatures dropping and some rain possible this evening.

Timing: Today daytime: Warm, 60s and little precipitation in the area. As of right now, this looks to be a higher than normal event in terms of impact because of the significantly colder air that will be in place and the frigid conditions that will arrive after the passing of the front. Snow should end by 5 a.m. January 15, according to the forecast. Most see around 1-3 inches, but some higher amounts are a possibility. “A few locations could see up to 4” of snow. Penfield in Monroe County got 16 inches, according to the Weather Service.

Snowfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected Tuesday into early Tuesday night, January 16, 2018. The temperature is forecast to climb above freezing on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The Tyler area – including the University of Texas at Tyler – is under a severe winter weather warning.

The winter weather advisory for Pontotoc, Lee, Itawamba, Calhoun, Chickasaw and Monroe counties is in effect from 3 a.m.to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday: Wintry mix possible, perhaps some light icing and light snow. Potential for greatest accumulation will be in the Winter Weather Warning area that includes Burnet, Llano and Blanco Counties (see attached map).

Monday night: A 90 percent chance of snow, mainly before 11 p.m., low around 11.

REST OF THE WEEK: Depending on how much snow falls, there could be some lingering icy patches Thursday morning.
