Baker Mayfield Really Wants People To Know He’s Not Johnny Manziel

Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen are getting plenty of looks from the pros this week.

For all Mayfield’s flaws (both real and perceived), he’s one thing that none of those quarterbacks are. “Family first, always. Doesn’t matter what the situation is”. How glorious. Mayfield will get more takes than anyone thanks to a combination of his Heisman Trophy, his brazen attitude, his off-field issues, his size, his skillset and the system he played in at Oklahoma. Asked Tuesday whether reports of him taking limited to no reps in Saturday’s contest are accurate, Mayfield responded, “We’ll see”.

“I think leadership wise and accuracy wise those are the best things I do”, Mayfield said.

He’s a former college running back and football coach who has been supplying analysis on the game for the past decade. “If I’m fortunate enough to be in that city, I’m there to play football first”. Ill do what it takes to win.

The scoop: “He’s been hit or miss, but I still love the talent”.

During 7-on-7 drills, Mayfield garnered a chorus of “oohs” after going 3-of-4 in a series and connecting on passes all over the field.

Mayfield, 22, was arrested last February and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication, in addition to fleeing and resisting arrest. The New York Giants could also be looking at Mayfield to see if he could be Eli Manning’s replacement at some point. That’s where an up-close week at the Senior Bowl could give the Broncos a little more information about Mayfield or any other quarterback they see work this week.

Baker Mayfield has reportedly had “extensive” meetings with four National Football League teams.

Mayfield knows the sordid history of the Browns – the quarterbacks, the losing, the constant change – through a former teammate who grew up in Cleveland. They think they know, but they don’t know yet.

Some have touted Allen as a possible No. 1 overall pick to the Cleveland Browns, and it all hinges on his potential.

Oklahomas Mayfield hasnt said if hell play in the game itself. Quarterback is their biggest need and the franchise won’t be able to move forward until they find their franchise quarterback.

Mayfield also didn’t handle the media responsibilities at the Senior Bowl anywhere near as well as Allen did. He completed a modest 56.3 percent of his passes for 1,812 yards and 16 touchdowns with six interceptions.

“As long as I’m going fast and making plays, they’re going to forget how many hands I have”, he said.

“There’s a lot of skepticism about what type of player I am and where I come from at the University of Wyoming”, Allen said.

Allen has been the talk of the town ever since Mel Kiper made him the first overall pick in his latest mock draft. “That’s the main reason I’m here”.
