Apple Share Tank 2% Following Reports Of Production Cuts

Kuo claims the 2018 iPhone X will again start at US$ 1000, the iPhone X Plus will be priced higher (likely US$ 1200-US$ 1350) while the iPhone X SE will be priced at around US$ 700-US$ 800.

The production cut was prompted by slower-than-expected sales in the holiday shopping season in Europe, the U.S. and China, without citing a source.

“The full results for the last quarter of the year show that Apple’s decision to release three new handsets over a staggered period, including the ultra high-end iPhone X, has been a sound one”, Kantar Global Director Dominic Sunnebo said in a statement. The final three months of any calendar year are always Apple’s best when it come to sales and earnings.

Still, many lawyers, on behalf of consumers, have filed proposed class-action lawsuits against Apple, seeking rewards of as much as $5 million, arguing that they were tricked into buying new phones as their older units slowed to a crawl.

Although many people had hoped that Apple will release a follow up to the affordable and smaller iPhone SE, the analyst’s predictions have introduced doubts that a second generation iPhone SE will ever be released. She reduced her forecast for iPhone X production to 20 million units for the first quarter from 30 million units. The company reportedly cut iPhone X production targets in half, which could deal a heavy blow to suppliers.

I am in Japan now and according to Japanese component makers, Apple could go sooner than later with a new premium iPhone offering while at the same time killing off their recent iPhone X along the way. Before the iPhone X release, the company also debuted the iPhone 8/iPhone 8 Plus, two phones that bring minor improvements when compared to the iPhone 7 and Plus version.

Instead, the iPhone SE 2 will probably get hold of a faster processor and lower cost. iPhone X features like a bezel-free screen, Face ID, and wireless charging are all out of the window.
