The only time the United States have topped the Winter Olympics medal table was when they hosted the Games at Lake Placid in 1932. He noted that American athletes finished between fourth and sixth place 35 times.
The 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will come to an end Sunday. “It has been a great help to the success of our PyeongChang Olympic Games that China sent premier-level delegations to the closing ceremony, as well as the opening ceremony”, Moon told Liu, according to Cheong Wa Dae pool reports. “Thank you for sharing it with us”.
“I also salute the athletes from around the world on their remarkable achievements and extend my heartfelt thanks to South Korea for organizing such successful games”.
Alan Ashley, the U.S. Olympic Committee’s chief of sport performance, wasn’t shirking from the bad result. Though the disappointment hurt, it gave them a chance to enjoy the rest of the Olympics.
Bach ended his speech by bringing athletes from the five continents on to the stage, which included Lindsey Vonn of the USA, the world’s most successful female ski racer of all time, and Tongan flag bearer Pita Taufatofua.
Many South Koreans were skeptical of Kim’s motives, but they were captivated by the spirit of the unified Korean women’s hockey team, which became one of the most popular story lines of the Games. “Our whole team will stay in the memory of the people as having won the gold medal”, he said.
But two Russians tested positive for doping during the Olympics and IOC president Thomas Bach said as a result, the ban could not be lifted for the closing ceremony.
The 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea concluded with the traditional closing ceremony Sunday at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium.
Charlotte Kalla of Sweden failed in her bid to match Bjoergen for a fifth medal at the Pyeongchang Games, finishing fifth.
The 2018 Winter Olympic Games which kicked off on February 9 have come to an end. Marit Bjoergen of Norway was given her eighth gold medal and Iivo Niskanen of Finland accepted his second. Oh Jang-hwan, the director of the ceremonies, has said that the theme of the closing ceremony will be “Next Wave”. It’s hard to soak it all in when you’re playing six games in 15 days and chasing gold. Canada was third with 11 golds, while hosts South Korea finished seventh. The U.S.: 23, nine gold.
But fears of what might have been, of trouble from the North, turned into fervent hopes that these Olympics would be a steppingstone to history, that what began here in sports arenas built of ice and snow might lead to something so much more.

If you are of the opinion that no closing ceremony is complete without giant, well-lit, rollerblading pandas, this was the event for you. She did not appear to interact with the North Korean official.
