In Canada, Sony claims the XZ2 will be able to achieve real-world 1Gbps download speeds when on Bell’s LTE-Advanced network.

It also features Qi wireless charging for its 3,180mAh battery though that is unfortunately not found on the Compact’s 2,870mAh.

And you’ll find 64GB of internal storage in both of these, along with microSD card support for extra storage – so that’s a welcome perk all around. These smartphones offer front-facing “S Force” stereo speakers and additionally, the Xperia XZ2 syncs haptic feedback system to the sound.

It will record video in 4K HDR – a quality previously only available in the top-of-the-range camcorders, senior Sony Mobile product manager Adam Marsh said. The device is likely to flaunt a 19MP primary camera at its rear but some reports hint at the presence of dual rear cameras. In contrast, the XZ2 Compact contains a battery that allows only charging via USB-C and also is comparatively less durable than Xperia XZ2, with its 2870mAh pack.

The Sony MWC 2018 press conference will take place on Monday February 26 2018.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact smartphones will be the first from Sony to feature 18:9 display. Sony introduced super slo-mo in its XZ Premium past year ago, a first that was copied by market leader Samsung in its Galaxy 9 unveiled on Sunday. It comes in glossy finish whereas the XZ2 compact is made up of a non-scratch polycarbonate finish. That’s available on the Sony Xperia XZ2, but because the Compact is, well, more compact there’s less room for that feature. While the bezels aren’t as small as the ones you would see on Galaxy S8/S9, they are certainly smaller than the Sony phones that have launched since previous year. But, it remains to be seen whether they come with Project Treble support or not.

The Sony MWC 2018 press conference will be broadcast on the company’s official website, with live coverage on their blog. According to Sony, thanks to these improvements the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are 20 percent louder than their predecessors.

Surprisingly, both displays will output HDR Full HD+ resolutions, so expect both phone to be capable of extremely accurate colour reproductions. We’ve tested the phone out ourselves, and here’s what you’ll get when the XZ2 Compact arrives later this year.
