Gary Oldman has won the Oscar for Best Actor

Oldman has always been an admired actor in Hollywood – best original screenplay victor Jordan Peele spoke backstage of his extreme admiration for Oldman – but this was his first Oscar and only second nomination.

But you’ll probably find that you can relate quite well to Gary Oldman, who last night managed to dent his shiny new Oscars statue before even arriving at the engraving station. And my wife Gisele, traveling that road with me and being at my side.

“Ironic night of the #metoo movement: host Jimmy Kimmel used to host the Man Show featuring women in bikinis jumping on a trampoline etc. while victor Kobe Bryant was accused of rape and another victor Gary Oldman was accused of beating his wife”, said @jimmaybejimmy. The pair met several years ago, before Oldman officially divorced his fourth wife Alexandra Edenborough in 2015.

The wedding marked the fifth for Oldman who was previously married to Edenborough, Lesley Manville, Uma Thurman and Donya Fiorentino, with whom he shares two adult children. Eight years ago, lead Oscar winners Jeff Bridges (“Crazy Heart”) and Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”) missed at BAFTA – Bridges lost to the homegrown Colin Firth (“A Single Man”) and Bullock was ineligible because her film hadn’t opened in the United Kingdom yet. But some were disturbed to see Oldman win the award on a night that celebrated the empowerment of women with the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements taking center stage. She was most recently photographed with Oldman at the BAFTA Awards in London on February 18.

The turmoil led to an investigation that primarily laid blame for the snafu on a PricewaterhouseCoopers partner, Brian Cullinan, who handed Beatty the wrong winner’s envelope backstage.

Speaking about political correctness to Playboy in 2014, Oldman, who is a libertarian, let out a slew of hateful words that were ostensibly meant to depict a double standard between what those on the right and those on the left are allowed to say but appeared to be more about pushing buttons with naughty words. Gadot was also part of a Kimmel stunt where a group of actors crashed a screening of a movie nearby. “Yeah, so maybe”, he told Hollywood Reporter about potential scenarios for the sequel. “The greatest thing that art does, and that our industry does, is erase the lines in the sand”, said del Toro. “That’s the kind of man we need more of”, he said. We think of him as an old man with a cigar who was born in a bad mood. Put the kettle on, I’m bringing Oscar home.
