Democratic surge in Texas primaries gives Republicans reason to worry
“They are mobilizing in a powerful way”, warned Cruz after the polls closed in an interview with the CBS affiliate in Dallas.

While some conservatives are anxious that Texas may be turning more liberal Senator Ted Cruz isn’t one of them.
Statewide, there were several nonbinding propositions on both the Republican and Democratic Primary ballots to poll voters about issues to see what issues legislation needed to discuss next session.
There’s a massive 18-way primary happening in the 21st District, and if a far-right candidate wins the nod, Democrats are hopeful they can compete for it in the general election.
CNN’s Chris Cuomo called Cruz on his hypocrisy. In four races, those candidates missed even making it to runoffs. That beats the previous record of 1.48 million in 2010, during former President Barack Obama’s first term. GOP chair eyes opioid bill vote by Memorial Day HHS official put on leave amid probe into social media posts Trump, Pence to address CPAC this week MORE (R-Texas) for slamming his Democratic rival for going by a nickname, noting that Cruz also doesn’t go by his given name.
Democrats have also been winning special state legislative elections around the country, in states including Florida, Wisconsin and Kentucky that were once considered safe for Republicans.
The numbers were just as grim for Democrats in the lieutenant governor’s races.
Ivan Lewis, a self-described “self-educated entrepreneur” and hobby farmer from Sultan, announced Wednesday he will be running for Kristiansen’s House seat. “And, in that sense, it’s becoming a little bit more like California every year”. The race drew national attention after the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released opposition research about one of the Democratic candidates, journalist and activist Laura Moser, saying she was too liberal to defeat the Republican incumbent.
The same is true in what will be some of the most watched races this fall – primaries to see who will face Reps.
A woman who identified herself as a Democrat but would not give her name said Trump was the reason many in her party were voting. Two little-known Democrats – former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez and Andrew White, the son of former Gov. Mark White – advanced to a runoff for the right to be Abbott’s Democratic opponent in November.
Gov. Greg Abbott tried to unseat three Republican incumbents.
Although Democrats need just two seats to claim the Senate, they have a bigger challenge there because they’re defending 26 seats in the upper chamber, compared to just eight for Republicans.
The two parties also took different approaches on voting, with Republicans asking to make voter fraud a felony charge and Democrats seeking to make voting easier and limiting corporate campaign influence, foreign interference and gerrymandering. “And I share some of those frustrations”.
The move may have helped propel Moser across the finish line in the first round of the primary and into a May runoff election, along with Houston attorney Lizzie Pannill Fletcher, who was endorsed by the pro-female candidate Super PAC Emily’s List. Republicans, on the other hand, accounted for 1.5 million votes. Eleven Democrats ran unopposed, including incumbent Joaquin Castro in San Antonio’s 20 District and two-termer Lloyd Doggett in District 35, which includes San Antonio to southeast Austin. Reflecting the national trend of progressive women running for office, each race features at least one female candidate with a realistic chance to win the nomination.

The Republican Primary runoff election is May 22. Based on this, Washington Democratic operatives believed he had a good shot of getting into the runoff.
