It was recently confirmed that Rift had overtaken Vive as the most popular VR device on Steam.
So, what the heck is going on? An expired security certificate, as it turns out, will prevent a user from being able to access the Oculus client. As I said, it’s a little more complex than applying your run-of-the-mill Oculus update, but it should still be doable.
Oculus co-founder Nate Mitchell acknowledged on Twitter that “this was a mistake on our end” and that the company apologizes for the inconvenience caused. The problem came through an expired certificate – and Oculus scrambled as it tried to assess and then fix the issue.
At the moment, some Rift owners are experiencing an issue where their VR headset gets stuck displaying a black screen when a PC wakes from sleep.
The Oculus Rift VR headset will start working again after facing a glitch yesterday, when some of them stopped working.
If you don’t want to mess around with that, Oculus should have a fix available soon.

Windows certificates are a pretty basic part of modern software, and it’s embarrassing for a company as big as Oculus – with the backing of Facebook – to let this happen.
There were also reports that the issue may have been due to the Windows creator update which changed how HDMI and USB drives worked.

If you’ve got an Oculus Rift and you’ve tried to use it in the last 24 hours, you probably ran into some trouble. Oculus said in its support post that it recommends you wait until the company can release an official fix instead of trying to do so yourself and potentially making things worse.
