Parental concerns left confusion at Thurston High School’s walkout
The 17 victims were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland when a gunman armed with an assault rifle carried out one of the worst mass shootings in modern US history.

Students in Greater Lafayette joined with thousands across the country in the National School Walkout this morning.
The students chanted the words, “Only love, no hate”.
“We just want to graduate”.
President Donald Trump was traveling in Los Angeles at the time.
After the national school walkout turned chaotic in Antioch Wednesday, a group of students are making a stand for unity. Most of the walkouts lasted 17 minutes, with each minute representing a person.
“I think we need to honor that”, Gathers said.
“Every one of these individuals could have died that day”.
“I’d been in their school for about 10 to 15 minutes now”, Richardson said.

Women’s March Youth member Tabitha St. Bernard Jacobs told ABC News before the event began that the walkout is about pressuring the Congress to act against gun violence.
“I’m really glad that we organized these workshops because I’m going to get to learn more about gun violence and gun control and be able to form my own perspective on it, separate from what I hear in the media”, said student Emilia Petters.
“Our elected officials must do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to this violence”, the organization said on its website.
An estimated 130 students from Alamogordo High School, Academy Del Sol, Chaparral and Holloman Middle schools peacefully participated in the National Student Walkout Wednesday morning.
The walkout itself went smoothly for the most part, although Reed said there were some who he said were disrespectful, preferring to talk to each other or on their cell phones annoying the people around them. The video, obtained by TMZ. reportedly shows school resource officer Scot Peterson, a now-former deputy with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14 as a gunman opened fire inside. Some vowed to walk out anyway. “This is about encouraging all our fellow students to work together to make positive changes”.
Knapp said the students were outside for 17 minutes. “For me personally, this is something I believe in”.
“It went a lot better than I expected”, Bulman said.
“Their right to free speech was supported by myself”, he said.

Numerous students 41 Action News spoke with said while the walk out may be a one-time thing, they hope to keep the conversation going throughout the school year.
