Jets swap with Colts to land third pick in National Football League draft

The New York Jets moved up from the No. 6 pick in the NFL Draft to the No. 3 pick on Saturday morning, according to the team. They sent the Colts their first-rounder – No. 6 overall – with two second-rounders this year and a second-rounder next year to complete the massive deal. Teams that don’t want to miss on their quarterback may now need to move into the top three of the draft to get their guy with the Browns, Giants and Jets all threats to go in that direction.

Unless they trade down even further, Indianapolis now has three picks in the second round and nine overall selections in the 2018 NFL Draft. If played right, New York’s blockbuster trade with the Colts could, in time, transform the balance of power in the AFC East. Second-round draft picks aren’t markedly worse than first-round picks.

Some sportswriters and fans are saying this is an essential trade for the Jets that will enable them to finally find a star quarterback.

Pryor had only 20 catches for 240 yards and one touchdown with Washington, a major drop-off after he erupted for 77 receptions for 1,007 yards and four scores the previous season with the Cleveland Browns. But if the Browns have their eye on a QB and absolutely want to make sure they get him, they could draft him at No. 1 and hope Barkley is available at their No. 4 selection. Taking into account teams that actually have quarterbacks of their own, Tampa Bay, Chicago, San Francisco and Oakland stand to benefit the most.

Throughout the offseason, many draft analysts have had the Dolphins selecting a quarterback in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

What we know is that the Broncos have explored or are exploring the option of trading up in this year’s draft.

It now seems very likely that at least two quarterbacks will be picked in the first 3 picks.

With four quarterbacks off the board, the Bucs have to contend with the Colts and the Browns with the fourth pick for the rest of the board.

Not even 24 hours after No.16 seed University of Maryland Baltimore County destroyed brackets everywhere in upsetting the top overall seed Virginia Cavaliers, the New York Jets chose to top that in making an even bigger move to the top in the upcoming 2018 NFL Draft.
