New York Jets Geno Smith Gets Punched by Teammate over $600 Dispute

Former New York Jets linebacker Ikemefuna Enemkpali could face discipline from the NFL under its personal conduct policy after breaking quarterback Geno Smith’s jaw with a punch in the team’s locker room. Bowles said that the incident has nothing to do with the game of football, and that the sucker punch to the quarterback was very childish.

The altercation between Geno and IK allegedly took place over $600, with Enemkpali claiming the QB owed him the money for a plane ticket he’d bought him earlier in the summer.

Head coach Todd Bowles commented on the incident this morning: “He will be out 6-10 weeks at least”. “You don’t walk up to another man and punch him in the face”. He got cold-cocked, sucker-punched, whatever you want to call it.

Somehow and someway, Fitzpatrick, who entered the NFL in 2005, is going to have yet another chance to start for yet another team. “I appreciate that opportunity I had with the Jets”.

Following the announcement that quarterback Geno Smith will miss the next 6-10 weeks with a broken jaw, the Jets’ 2016 Super Bowl odds have dropped.

IK Enemkpali, a reserve linebacker who threw the punch, was promptly released by the team. Smith told Enemkpali he would reimburse him the money, but he did not.

The confrontation, which did not go as smoothly as Smith might have hoped, landed Smith on a hospital bed.

Later Smith posted a closed-mouthed photo on Instagram with the caption “I’ll be back”. “Something you don’t tolerate”. A normally quiet and thoughtful presence in the locker room, Enemkpali received a suspended jail sentence and probation after assaulting an off-duty police officer while he was a Louisiana Tech student in 2011.

Smith said “My only goal is to heal quickly and get back to playing with my teammates so I can be the best quarterback possible for the Jets”.

The Jets selected Enemkpali in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
