“This decision comes after much thought and prayer and follows a 4-2 vote of the Board of Trustees on January 23 indicating a desire for change in leadership”, Prosser wrote in a prepared statement to York school board members, staff and faculty.

“As you know I have been an administrator for nearly twenty years with half of that time serving you at Brown High School”, he wrote. Prosser’s annual salary is $140,454 with a $9,000 in-district travel allowance, according to the school district.

The latest money-saving opportunity the district is exploring is the possibility of joining a “shared school district” with neighbors Derby and Ansonia.

Other board members said they were unaware of the new hiring plan until they received the agenda by email on Tuesday evening.

The provincial government boosted school maintenance funding by more than $20 million over previous year, and has increased the AFG for the first time since 2004/05.

The school district sent out a statement two days before the walkout stating that any student who participated in the movement by walking off campus would be penalized with an unexcused absence.

Kids will not have to come into school on Monday, but teachers will still have to come in.

“That really would be significantly damaging to school districts in upstate NY”, she said.

The board then unanimously approved the list of seven candidates as finalists to be interviewed. “Education is about liberation, not incarceration”, she said.

She is the current West Fargo assistant superintendent of elementary education and has been with the district since 1994.

DeCesaro also said the move would save $1.4 million and make it easier for the district to recruit and retain teachers.

Educator’s Compensation Working Group: Brumley wants to create a review team to study pay for Jefferson Parish school employees as it compares to neighboring districts and create a plan to address the findings.

“We don’t know what’s in those backpacks, and we should have a pretty good idea”, he said.

Mayor Mark Lauretti said he is in favor of the study being conducted and doesn’t see any harm in other districts sharing services.
