Lampard on 2-goal Pogba: Man Utd finally saw his aggression

“In that level in that competition when you have chances you have to score”, said City manager Pep Guardiola.

United counterpart Jose Mourinho was more irritated than sad when he addressed his players in the dressing room at the break. In the first half of the game was nearly over, we created enough chances and had good situations but [the result] is ok.

“Of course they are frustrated because they wanted to do it today, but I congratulate them for the title because they are going to win and deservedly”, he added.

In those two concentrated periods where City’s defence collapsed they gave up a goal every 5.8 minutes.

“That objective is the compulsory objective so we need six points in three matches at home and three away”. They were already playing well, and once we got the goals we knew we were mentally strong enough to see the game out.

City left several regular starters on the bench ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Liverpool.

The player himself also showed his confusion at the claims he could have swapped one Manchester club for another during the January transfer window. Mourinho is trying to get that back and he is trying to get discipline and hard work.

The Red Devils delayed City’s title celebration when they came from 2-0 down to beat their hosts 3-2 at the Etihad.

When the opener came in the 25th minute, however, it was from a simple corner played in by Leroy Sane which skipper Kompany, despite having his shirt pulled by Smalling, met with a thundering header.

Earlier this week, City chief Guardiola revealed he had been offered Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan by super-agent Mino Raiola.

City should have been out of sight by half-time as Guardiola screamed in frustration after Sterling fired two glorious chances well over the bar.

Sanchez worked an opening on the right and his cross was chested down perfectly by Ander Herrera into Pogba’s path and he slotted past the advancing Ederson in the 53rd minute.

In comparison, Pogba has five this season alone.

Chris Smalling, Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez received the most criticism, and rightly so. His starting lineup showed how Guardiola has prioritized lifting the European Cup – something United has done three times, while City has yet to establish its place among the continent’s elite. He had a pretty poor first-half and his decision to dye his hair light blue on the day City could seal the title seemed foolish. Subs: Kevin De Bruyne, (on for David Silva, 72) 6, Gabriel Jesus (on for Bernardo Silva, 72) 6, Sergio Aguero (on for Gundogan 76) 6.
