After Facebook hearings, users want to know
In February, a Belgian court ruled that Facebook had violated European privacy law with such tracking because it hadn’t obtained consent either to collect or store the data.

Before many people join a network, it may not be so useful.
Wearing a dark suit and tie, and prefacing nearly every remark with “congressman” or “congresswoman”, Mr Zuckerberg on Wednesday repeatedly defended the company’s privacy practices. After all, Facebook has no real incentive to look after the data of its users, since those data are so valuable to companies around the globe. He stuck closely to talking points, and the technical illiteracy of many lawmakers was on painful display.
But it also raises more questions. This came after questioning by Representative Anna Eshoo, a California Democrat. Twenty-one percent said they are planning to use Facebook much less in the future.
Mr Zuckerberg was on Capitol Hill for the second time in two days to answer questions about data privacy.
Diamond and Silk? Facemash?
Jump to 2018 and a Congressional panel, and enter Congressman Billy Long (R. -MO). An accurate profile can reveal details, like our sexual orientation, that we never chose to disclose in the first place.
Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg told NBC News on Thursday that Facebook users could have to pay to completely opt out of their data being used to target them with advertising.
“Most importantly I’m especially dejected that not only are these failures impacting the regular users, I’m extremely sorry that I can’t even tell the United States lawmakers who has and hasn’t viewed their Facebook profiles”, the written statement said.
Diamond and Silk have been locked in a beef with Facebook since a year ago, when they accused the social media platform of purposely suppressing their content.
Zuckerberg also appeared willing to work with lawmakers on possible regulations, which we think may actually create a barrier to entry in the social network space and help Facebook maintain its market leadership.
Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) summarized Zuckerberg’s sometimes-deficient responses in a remark towards the end of the hearing: “As CEO, you didn’t know some key facts”.
“You didn’t know about key court cases regarding privacy and your company”.
Facebook’s downfall has, it seems, been greatly exaggerated – at least according to Facebook .

If you aren’t sure about whether your phone number is linked to your Facebook account, you might want to head to Settings – Mobile or Facebook – Profile – Update profile – Contact and basic info to check. “Why should we trust you to follow through on these promises when you have demonstrated that you’re willing to flaunt your internal policies and government oversight when the need suits you?” However, this meant that the Facebook Events data would also include information about who else attended the event, as well as any posts shared on the event’s wall.
