Atkins is ready for WNBA Draft

Jim Littell had four WNBA draft picks in his tenure before last season, and the Oklahoma State women’s basketball team had another player selected Thursday. Now imagine the 2013 draft doubled. The Huskies have had at least one player selected in the draft 19 times in the last 21 years, including a current 11-year streak. The two were sorority sisters with Borders graduating from Duke and Wilson from SC.

Canada led UCLA’s run to the Elite Eight of the Women’s NCAA Tournament this year. She will play for former Liberty coach Bill Laimbeer. They could be in for a quick turnaround with Wilson in the paint. She won every major college award and is the consensus top pick in the draft, giving the Aces a strong inside presence. If Wilson catches on quickly, they could be a force. This well-traveled player, who also went to Butler and UTSA, can definitely score the ball.

In all three mock drafts done by a few WNBA coaches and GMs for the AP, Indiana is expected to take Ohio State guard Kelsey Mitchell second.

But former Tennessee guard Diamond Deshields offers a layer of intrigue into the mix. Overall, those are the intangibles that set her apart from a lot of other big players in our league.

“Well, we’re going to use both picks for sure, and we may use them to acquire players or we may use them to trade to acquire different picks”, Stocks said. Stocks passed on 6-6 stretch-four Azura Stevens, also of UConn – whom SC coach Dawn Staley compared to Kevin Durant – to select Williams, whom some observers consider an undersized prospect who may have trouble finding a position at the next level. The athletic forward brings it on defense and is tough around the rim. The 5-9 guard collected an impressive 14 steals over her final two collegiate contests against 18th-ranked Georgia and top-ranked CT. They played in three straight Sweet 16s.

But in 2017, the Wings held three top-10 picks, and two in the top four. “For us specifically at Chicago, yes she is a player that is going to garner attention”. McGee-Stafford was unfazed. She didn’t care where she got picked, as long as it was for the right team.

Atkins became Texas’s fifth first-round pick in program history. Stepped her game up this season and will provide some depth for the Mystics.

Thomas joins Maria Vadeeva from Russian Federation in the Sparks’ draft class.

The Lynx dealt away their first-round pick.

Hines-Allen is now the eighth Cardinal to be chosen in the WNBA Draft.

Minnesota Gophers star Carlie Wagner is projected to be drafted in the third round.

Adulthood beckons Thursday night. They said don’t get caught up (in the expectations in the WNBA), just compete and do you and let the game come to you.
