Golden State Warriors defeat the San Antonio Spurs handedly in playoff opener

The Association’s postseason gets underway Saturday afternoon when the defending champion Golden State Warriors host the San Antonio Spurs.

Golden State’s success has been due to its star point guard Stephen Curry and its star forward Kevin Durant. According to The Mercury News, Patrick McCaw will not play in the first round either as he continues to recover.

This is pretty impressive considering the fact that the Warriors have had to deal with a multitude of injuries this season.

“I’m all about the team”, Cook said.

Well if Game 1 of the series was any indication, the Warriors had absolutely nothing to worry about. Cook is averaging 9.5 points, 2.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds this season for the Warriors. When informed of Kerr’s comments in the locker room however, Durant, who finished with team highs in points (27) and assists (seven), expressed disagreement.

The Golden State Warriors, for all intent and purposes, have been head and shoulders the best team in the National Basketball Association for the better part of four years now.

Thompson had one of the best playoff shooting performances of his career, hitting 11 of 13 shots, including 5 of 6 from the three-point line.

San Antonio quickly fell behind, but trailed by only 11 points at the end of the first period, thanks in part to a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Manu Ginobili. Jordan Bell and Nick Young didn’t enter until garbage time, and Zaza Pachulia did not play.

Double teams flew toward Aldridge in the post, and Golden State’s defense rotated on a string to stifle any ball movement. The big man is averaging 4.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and a block.

The host Warriors updated star guard Curry’s left knee sprain before playing, saying he was making progress and will be re-evaluated next Saturday, on the eve of game four of the best-of-seven first-round series at San Antonio.

“They’re going to bring out the best in us, or they’re going to completely expose us”, Kerr said Friday of the Spurs. Our intention is to hang another banner, that’s our goal. “And I’m well aware of what a long, hard season it’s been”, Kerr said. “I’m confident in that”.

Final Prediction: Golden State Warriors defeat San Antonio Spurs 4-1 to advance to the second round. For the Warriors, that load falls onto Kevin Durant, easily the number one scoring option. “Because I’m sure you can ask any championship team along the way that’s trying to repeat or whatever the case is, every journey is defined by different circumstances”. “I wouldn’t call it flipping a switch”.
