Roy sparkles as DD snap losing streak

Iyer got together with Roy for a crisis chat before the last delivery of the game, and told the English batsman to keep his shape. Roy made his intentions clear hitting a four off Hardik Pandya. After Gambhir’s dismissal, Roy and Rishabh Pant (47, 25b, 6×4, 2×6) added 69 runs for the second wicket in 33 balls to put DD in command. Kieron Pollard also failed miserably and went for a golden duck. Now in the 11th season of his career also Hardik Pandya took an incredible catch. Had Mustafizur Rahman caught two chances at short third man off Shreyas Iyer in the 17th over, the result might have been different, because with 16 required off 12 balls, Bumrah sent down an excellent 19th over that cost just five.

Earlier, Mumbai scored 194 runs and attempted to give Delhi a challenge.

He may have started his maiden appearance at the top of the batting order in Twenty20s with a memorably fifty at his home ground, but Suryakumar Yadav wasn’t thrilled with his effort.

However, they have the highest run-scorer and highest wicket-taker, Suryakumar Yadav wearing the Orange Cap with 124 runs in three innings – scores of 43, 28 and 53 in his first three matches – and leg-spinner Mayank Markande (7 wickets). Yadav welcomed Mohammed Shami with a six and followed it with two fours as he made a mockery of the listless Delhi attack.

Gill may be used to playing up in the batting order — No.3 is his preferred slot – but KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik said he would need to get used to a different role.

However, Pandey’s screamer of a catch to oust Rana came in the first over upon the resumption and when Williamson pouched Sunil Narine (9) – who batted at No 4 instead of his usual opening berth – running back from midwicket, KKR began to slide. Lewis smashed four fours and as many sixes. Mumbai lost both games against CSK and SRH by 1 wicket in the last over.

The openers not only scored 84 runs in the first six overs but shared the crease in a 102-run blistering partnership which came off only 54 balls.

Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in a fairly one-sided affair at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.

A Kane Willamson half-century and an excellent performance in the field helped Sunrisers Hyderabad maintain their ideal Indian Premier League record with a five-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders.

Time will tell whether this feels like a plumber fixing a fuse but it did leave Gill struggling to accelerate after going out to bat in the 14th over.
