Tornado watch for final Lowcountry county expires — FIRST ALERT WEATHER

Watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center for counties where tornadoes may occur. Several trees were snapped or uprooted. “Whether this was high winds or a tornado, we’re unsure of”. Only one of those tornadoes was greater than an EF1 – that was an EF3 last May that went through Polk, Barron, Rusk and Price Counties, killing one person. Several trees were also snapped and uprooted.

Tree cutting services have been working tirelessly since dawn to try and help remove the trees from the Brewer home. Estimated peak winds were at 95 miles per hour.

By the evening, skies should be mostly clear. The high temperature will be about 67 and the low temperature about 43.

A widespread 2 to 3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, is expected through Monday.

On Thursday, look for a cloudy, rainy day with an 80 percent chance of rain.

Winds… Southwest 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 30 miles per hour. The valley will see gusts between 25 to 30 miles per hour. Be careful along our area waterways. Tuesday will begin a warming trend back into the 70s.

ABC11 is in First Alert Mode as a Tornado Watch and Flash Flood Warning has been issued for parts of central North Carolina.

The National Weather Service will investigate Monday whether a tornado touched down in the Midlands.

The warning advises people to seek shelter inside a sturdy building and stay away from windows. Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

Do not use elevators.

Remain in place of shelter until you are notified that the hazard has passed.

The expected ice line for the next round of the storm has broadened and shifted south.
