The attorney for Daniels, who rose to prominence representing the former porn star, said he expects the documents to produce more legal troubles for the president.

U.S. District Judge Kimbra Wood said that she had faith in the Justice Department’s so-called “taint team” to isolate materials protected by attorney-client privilege, but added that she would consider allowing a neutral third party requested by Cohen to weigh in.

The Latest on efforts by President Donald Trump and his personal lawyer to stop criminal prosecutors from reviewing materials seized in raids before they have a chance to review them for potential breach of attorney-client privilege.

Prosecutors have said that a federal grand jury has been investigating Cohen for months.

It is believed the “ongoing criminal investigation” is in relation to the criminal case being mounted by the US Attorney.

One was Trump himself. “I think Michael Cohen is in a lot of trouble”.

From 2007 to 2017, Cohen worked as a lawyer for Trump and the Trump Organization. Team Trump sees an undying loyalist.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan, which is handling the investigation, will likely have “set up a team of lawyers whose only job and only connection to the case is to determine whether material is privileged or not”, said Ohlin.

“There are three parties in this case”. Denying an objection by Hendon, the judge ruled federal investigators could obtain the statistical data without examining the underlying content.

Cohen admitted making the payment in February, but claims Trump knew nothing of it, and that it was his own personal cash.

The three other clients, according to the letter, are Trump, Broidy and a third client whom Cohen initially did not want to be identified.

But perhaps the most stunning aspect of the hearing was the revelation that Fox News host Sean Hannity was Cohen’s third client. “I understand he doesn’t want his name out there”.

Cohen’s lawyers say that Cohen should not be required to turn over the names.

“We have been friends a long time”.

Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, center, leaves federal court, Monday, April 16, 2018, in NY.

Hannity played down the relationship, saying he occasionally asked Cohen legal questions but never paid him.

Cohen’s lawyers did not detail the nature of the legal work he did for Hannity.

As one of Trump’s most vocal supporters – and one who reportedly speaks to the president frequently – Hannity attacked the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the raid on Cohen’s offices last week without disclosing details of his relationship with Cohen.

Cohen arranged a $1.6m payment to secure the silence of a former Playboy model who said she became pregnant by Broidy, a person familiar with the matter said Friday.

The April 9 raid on Cohen sought information on a variety of matters, including a $130,000 payment made to Daniels, who alleges she had sex with a married Trump in 2006. Trump’s allies are also anxious that the Federal Bureau of Investigation may have obtained a “gold mine” of recordings Cohen made with associates close to the president.

On Twitter Sunday, Trump decried the breech of his communications with Cohen.

The Justice Department’s practices are meant to protect a defendant’s attorney-client privilege. “All lawyers are deflated and concerned!”

Also, lawyers for Mr. Trump asked for copies of seized records to be turned over to the president so he can review them for confidential information.

“The notion that attorney-client privilege is so sacrosanct that the government can not review the documents or the court can not determine these issues is not only antiquated, it’s no longer viable”, Mr. Ross said.

Both women say they had affairs with Trump.

The Justice Department argued that Cohen and Trump haven’t provided evidence that Trump sought legal advice from Cohen, and that Cohen acted more as a “fixer” than a lawyer.

The masses of reporters outside and inside the courthouse in Lower Manhattan underscored the importance of the case – and the odd circumstance of a Justice Department lawyer squaring off in court against a lawyer for the president to argue about potential evidence in a criminal probe of the president’s private attorney.

Her ruling came at the end of a hearing attended by Cohen and Stormy Daniels, who sat feet apart but did not appear to interact.
