Major League Baseball has it’s first no-hitter of 2018
Included in the Twitter salutes was even one from Ramirez, who made the last out for the Red Sox.

Oakland ace Sean Manaea tossed the first no-hitter of the Major League Baseball 2018 season, getting some help from an overturned call in the A’s 3-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night.
Somehow, MLB’s first no-hitter of the 2018 season came at the expense of its best team.
Before Friday’s game in Oakland, Bogaerts was taking grounders and running bases, and he looked good. Obviously, that’s not always going to happen.
We’re getting closer to a no-long-leash culture for no-hitters.
The historic run has been sparked by the incredible starting pitching.
The other contest yesterday was not almost as close with the Nashville Predators routing the Avalanche 5-0 in Colorado to close out that series four games to two.
Boston appeared to get a hit in the sixth inning when Andrew Benintendi smacked a ground ball to the right side of the infield in front of the crowd of 35,000 at the Oakland Coliseum.
Semien and Piscotty hit back-to-back singles off Price (2-2) with one out in the eighth.
Hoskins added a run-scoring single in a three-run eighth inning as the Phillies beat the Pirates for the third time in three days. The mistake, an 87-mph first-pitch cutter over the middle-half, mid-thigh that Davis quickly deposited onto the stairway beyond the wall in left field for a three-run homer (6).
“He’s very lethal”, Semien said of Davis. For now, the math juuuuuuust holds together, and we still get plenty of no-hitters, like Manaea’s 108-pitch effort. Those 17 losses were the most in the league, and he also gave up the most home runs in the league, 38. “That was one of his biggest ones”. He struck out six and walked one.
The Red Sox have hit 18 home runs in their last 10 games, including 13 over their last five. It was a 1-1 matchup between Mengden and the A’s bullpen against David Price for seven innings before the A’s offense finally got to Price in a big way when Khris Davis launched a first pitch fastball into the left field stair well to put the A’s up 4-1 in the eighth inning. He has a 1.86 earned run average and a 0.96 walks/hits per inning pitched rate, not to mention 41 strikeouts in 29 innings pitched and a 1.84 fielding-independent pitching rate. Offensively, Mitch Moreland served as the onoy Red Sox hitter to claim multiple hits. The right-hander with the handlebar mustache credited a new reliance on his changeup for the success. “I was running back”, Semien said after the game, “and I heard Canha was yelling, ‘Marcus, Marcus, ‘ and I thought he said, ‘I got it.’ But I still think I should’ve caught the ball”.
Pedroia and Bogaerts are on the disabled list, while Ortiz has retired. He had been out with a left hamstring strain.
