Gmail is the most popular email application in the world and with this much-needed visual refresh, along with a slew of new features Google plans to make the interface user-friendly.

Google is taking the lid off its oft-hinted redesign of Gmail, which includes a new look, a host of fresh features, increased security and an injection of artificial intelligence.

Google’s Bank said the overhaul was required primarily to provide offline access to up to 90 days of emails for users who turn on the feature.

The new Confidential mode allows users to have more control over their information. As the leaks suggested, it revamps all the core Gmail elements with a new, sleek look.

But in case the advent of “snooze” sounds like a procrastinators’ dream, Gmail on the web will now also “nudge” users to follow up and respond to their emails with “quick reminders” that appear next to the messages “to help make sure nothing slips through the cracks”. You can also add two-factor authentication.

The new snooze feature allows one to save an email for a later date, as chosen, when the email will resurface again – this allows people to clean their inboxes whilst still ensuring that important emails will be addressed. In fact, there is a definite gain here for users of G Suite apps – there is now a sidebar which can be used to display other apps including Calendar and the new dedicated Tasks app.

On the other end, the recipients see they’ve received a confidential message and a warning about the time limit. It’ll pop back on top of your inbox at the time you specify.

Smart Replies are awesome on mobile, and they’re coming to the web. With the integration of Gmail and Calendar, you can also create a task directly from an email, or trace a task back to its source in the email, and so on. In addition to that, it will also let you secure emails by enabling password protection which will be automatically generated through SMS.

One of the other business-centric features added to Gmail is IRM or integrated rights management.

Google is finally launching its much-anticipated Gmail redesign for customers worldwide, its first in years.

To start clearing out some of that inbox clutter, Gmail will now recommend mailing lists to unsubscribe from, based on how often you get these mass mailings versus how often you actually read them. “Confidential mode” also lets you specify whether your recipient will have to type in a passcode they receive separately in a text message in order to read your message. At this point in time, not all users will have immediate access to all the changes but over the passage of time, it will be a standard. Most crucially, emails set as “confidential” cannot be forwarded or replied to directly, which could reduce the risk of accidental leakage. It’s also not a huge surprise that Google is bringing some features from Inbox over to Gmail. All you have to do is type the + sign and start typing until you see the contact information for the person you’re looking for.
