Snap’s Next Big Idea: Camera Glasses – Oh, Wait …

Long back in 2016 Snapchat has released its new gadget called as Spectacles in the market, but unfortunately, the brand has only sold 2,20,000 pairs. You only need Bluetooth and pressing the shutter for seven seconds to be able to sync the photos or videos to your phone so it means the process is now four times faster. Price-wise, the new Spectacles is a bit more expensive at $150 which is $20 more expensive than before.

With such a unique method of distribution, the company created a lot of attention and hype around its first hardware product. To capture a photo, users hold the top button for a second.

Snap’s decision to recommit to Spectacles has come as a surprise, as many competitors are shifting away from smart glasses in general.

Snap has also sped up transfer speeds when it comes to uploading videos and photos to Snapchat. Indeed the reason for Snap’s recent net loss of 3.2 million was “primarily related to excess inventory reserves and inventory purchase commitment cancellation charges” of said spectacles. Three new colors are available, onyx, ruby, and sapphire, with two different lenses per color variant.

The Spectacles are available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and France starting Thursday. You can buy them now at Spectacles.com. They were a viral hit at first and people waited hours to get their hands on a pair.

“Spectacles are now more comfortable to wear with a smaller profile, and they’re water resistant”, the Snap announcement explains.

In addition to the upgraded look, Spectacles 2 will also allow users to take pictures instead of just videos, and while the quality is decent, Mashable sums it up nicely.

Snapchat has finally unveiled the new version of its Spectacles wearable camera. This capability integrates well with Snap’s Snapchat app, which the company developed for social media sharing of photos and video.

The changes they did make with V2 (water-proofing, higher-def video, slightly updated design) have fundamentally been tweaks towards perfecting a vision that consumers don’t seem to be identifying with already, all in a package that costs more.
