‘The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea, ‘ Trump said. Add North Korea as an interest to stay up to date on the latest North Korea news, video, and analysis from ABC News.

Pyongyang has said it won’t return to talks with Seoul due to the exercises. We saw this morning that North Korea apparently, allegedly, sent out a statement about South Korea.
One interpretation Panda offered was that the North Koreans “effectively thought the USA wasn’t being serious, was running sort of an arrogant victory lap before the talks had taken place, and was still setting up complete denuclearization as the benchmark”.
South Korea to continue urging North Korea to follow up on the decisions taken in their recent agreements as part of the inter-Korean summit.
“We will continue to go ahead and plan the meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un”, Nauert said.
Then, the North Korean regime began having doubts about whether it should attend the summit in the wake of this week’s joint U.S. The Kim regime has canceled talks with South Korean officials that were to have taken place this Wednesday.
CHUCK TODD, NBC NEWS: Is it possible Kim Jong-un realizes he’s got everything he’s already wanted, which is recognition on the world stage.
Annual military drills between Washington and Seoul have always been a major source of contention between the Koreas, and analysts have wondered whether their continuation would hurt the detente that, since an outreach by Kim in January, has replaced the insults and threats of war.
President Donald Trump said he’s hopeful that a planned face-to-face meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will happen, but even if it doesn’t the US will be in “great shape”.
North Korea’s chief negotiator called the South Korean government “ignorant and incompetent” yesterday, denounced US-South Korean air combat drills and threatened to halt all talks with the South unless its demands are met.
“High-ranking officials of the White House … are letting loose assertions of so-called Libya mode … while talking about formula of ‘abandoning nuclear weapons first, compensating afterwards.’ …”
He also took aim at John Bolton, Trump’s national security adviser.
Just hours earlier, South Korea said it was pushing to reset the high-level talks with its northern neighbor.
What does this mean for the nuclear issue?
The comments were made following a series of articles from North Korean state media since Wednesday, which derided both the US and South Korea for recent comments and actions that the country opposes. But it’s uniquely Trump-like to drop any pretense of special insight into Kim’s thinking and to flat-out say that his administration is “just reading stories like you are”.
“I think what the North Koreans did – and it’s pretty smart – they decided not to keep negotiating”.
North Korea described them as a “provocation” and a rehearsal for an invasion. His appointment in March raised concerns among those in favor of reconciliation. Pyongyang could also be trying to capitalize on an apparent gap in messaging between Mr Bolton and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. “He absolutely wanted to do it”, Trump said, referring to Kim and the June summit meeting. They want something to be clarified there. -South Korean military drills were practicing strikes on strategic targets in North Korea, and accused the South of allowing “human scum to hurt the dignity” of the North’s supreme leadership.
