With the release of popular competitive mobile games like PUBG and Fortnite on mobile, there is renewed interest in “gaming phones”. For those wanting to game on the big screen to share games with friends there is also a WiGig dock and compatibility with the third-party Game Vice controller that turns the ROG Phone into something resembling the Nintendo Switch with joystick and physical buttons on either side. It all started with the Razer Phone; since then we had the Xiaomi Black Shark, Nubia Red Magic and now the Asus ROG Phone. Most Android phones on the market have a refresh rate of 60Hz, with exception to the Razer Phone that has a max refresh rate of 120Hz.
The overclocked Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 8 GB of RAM and vapor cooling might be too much for the Android games now available on the PlayStore, but the gaming phone screams power and it should be able to easily handle even more demanding games in the future. However, the CPUs in the chipset is clocked to 2.96GHz when compared to 2.8GHz found on other flagship phones.
ASUS has announced its much-awaited ROG gaming smartphone. The company has also added a decent 8MP front, 12MP/8MP ultra-wide on the back. And if it’s just not striking enough, never fear: you can customise the rear logo to pulse flash or glow in a variety of colours thanks to the integrated RGB lighting. ASUS also claims HDR support and 108.6% DCI-P3 coverage. In addition, there is a 3D vapour-chamber cooling system to keep the device cool under extended gaming conditions.
Unlike their predecessors, these refreshed models aren’t using twisted nematic (TN) panels, and instead have been upgraded with higher quality 15.6-inch in-plane switching (IPS) displays, both with a 1920×1080 resolution, fast 144Hz refresh rate, and 3ms response time. Following Razer’s footsteps, ASUS has announced the ROG Phone, it’s first “gaming phone”. There’s also a dock for connecting the phone to accessories like a keyboard, mouse and monitor. If you’re a hardcore mobile gamer, however, nothing on or coming to the market now beats the gaming power packed in that size.
The Asus Phone features a 6-inch full HD+ AMOLED display, which comes thin bezels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The AirTriggers are highly sensitive buttons on the side of the phone that allows the user to play games without having to touch the screen itself. The ASUS ROG Phone comes with three USB-C ports as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack. The accessory also has its own 6000mAh battery.

Asus are no strangers to making phones, with the companies ZenFone range a pretty well-established range within the world of mobile devices. One half of the case has an extra display, while the top half has an area into which the ROG Phone can be slotted. As of right now, there is no announcement on the pricing of the phone but considering the hefty specs get ready to lighten your wallet.
