How Apple plans to help you spend less time on your phone

Apple held its annual Worldwide Developers’ Conference on Monday in San Jose, California, unveiling new updates to its operating system, customizable Animoji, new fitness features and more. A new feature called Siri Shortcuts allows users to create customized actions for Siri, to be triggered by certain phrases; and Apple has launched new APIs to help developers take advantage of this functionality.

For years, some consumers have criticized the iOS software for bugs.

When Apple releases the new iOS 12 update, you’ll be able to use the group FaceTime feature with up 32 simultaneous participants. The company said Siri gets 10 billion requests per week. However, the highlight of the event was the power-packed iOS 12 mobile software, which comes with customised animations, a tool to monitor addiction, group FaceTime and enhanced augmented reality.

Apple is rolling out a new and improved Books app, renaming it Apple Books from iBooks. Finally, with the Voice Memos app, iOS and macOS memos will be synced via iCloud.

These include new “competitions” within the Activity app, letting you challenge buddies to fitness duels and earn badges.

Support for third-party navigation apps in its CarPlay system, including Google Maps.

Lots of people are excited about the new animoji features. In the new update, users can challenge friends to fitness goal and competitions, digital awards and workout recording, in case the user forgets to press start or workout tracking, doesn’t start automatically.

Yes, “app limits” are just what they sound like – iOS 12 will let you set an amount of time to use different apps, and the feature’s notification will prod you, warning you that your time is almost up when you’ve nearly run out of minutes.

Apple is trying to cut the number of software bugs with this year’s upgrade.
