How Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation could affect Roe v. Wade
President Donald Trump nominated Kavanaugh to succeed retiring Supreme Court Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy. And Democrats on Capitol Hill have vowed to do everything they can to delay Kavanaugh’s confirmation until after the midterms, with the hope that they can take control of the Senate and effectively stop it.

Administration officials told Politico that Trump spent the most time with Kavanaugh out of the other three candidates – he was interviewed at least twice – and was impressed with Kavanaugh’s credentials and “fidelity to the Constitution”, in Politico’s words. “The stakes are high for the LGBT community”.
Republicans called the choice a triumph and rallied behind Kavanaugh.
Republicans control the Senate with a 51-49 majority.
Wesolowski also said Kavanaugh would be hostile to the Affordable Care Act and to workplace protections for Americans. “He is widely admired for his intellect, experience and exemplary judicial temperament”, he said.
The Clinton scandal does underscore how the Supreme Court can play a crucial role in settling legal disputes involving the president.
Baldwin is considered to be one of the most liberal Democrats running for reelection this year in a state carried by the president.
The pressure will be most intense on Sens. Republicans are targeting Democrats up for re-election in states President Donald Trump won in 2016 – of which there are 10, not including Sen. Kavanaugh’s evolved view on the subject could have implications for President Trump.
Abortion will be perhaps the key issue in upcoming confirmation hearings for Kavanaugh. But a controversial Supreme Court pick could test the boundaries of their willingness to buck the rest of the Democratic Party.
Georgia U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson also issued a statement regarding the nomination. “Hopefully it’s efficient, we get it done quickly”, he said, adding later, “In the end, I think his record will speak for itself”.
Which begs the question: if Roe v. Wade is overturned, what does that mean for Minnesota? Will he protect women’s freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions? The right of women to not die and hurt themselves just to terminate a pregnancy has to transcend politics, and that comes with recognizing that real people are affected by abortion laws.
Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who also met with Kavanaugh, promised a “thorough” but speedy confirmation process.
He will be accompanied by former Sen.
The documents do not provide a complete record of Kavanaugh’s finances.
Alabamians will be hearing a lot about Kavanaugh in the coming days. In a lecture hosted by the conservative Heritage Foundation, Kavanaugh said Byrd stressed to him the importance of the powers listed in the Constitution.
“Well, as I’ve said, I stand for the sanctity of life”, he said.
