Apple reveals yet another iPhone to keep gadget fans satisfied

Apple is set to kick off its “Gather Round” special event today at 10AM PDT/1PM EDT at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park, in Cupertino, California. While the smartphones are a big upgrade from previous year, there’s a lot more which Apple announced at its event.

The Apple Store, which will begin to take orders on the new phones on Friday, lists the base price for the 64GB iPhone XR, the cheap one, at $1,029 CAD. It’s missing a home button and is activated by swiping. But it’s time to move on.

And, Schiller said, the XS line-up features ‘the most lovely iPhone we’ve ever made’.

If it’s a bigger phone you are after then you could be in luck as there’s been plenty of speculation around a larger device which could be called the iPhone Xs Max or Plus.

An iPhone XS Max with 512 GB of storage will be the most expensive iPhone ever.

Wednesday’s announcements came shortly after the company appeared to leak the new devices on its website.

Most of the buzz is swirling around a rumored iPhone that is supposed to boast a 6.5-inch OLED screen, up from 5.8 inches on the existing iPhone X. Both the regular and the Max version have that same Dolby Vision and HDR10, as it were, and both have displays with a 60-percent greater dynamic range of colors than the standard iPhone X.

Apple says battery life on the iPhone XS will be 30 minutes longer than the iPhone X’s, while the larger XS Max will last an hour an a half longer than the iPhone X. Apple demonstrated one app, HomeCourt, that uses the camera viewfinder to track and analyse basketball shots to provide real-time feedback that can help players improve their technique. The iPhone XS Max may become the talk of the town if one were to go by rumors and speculations. The 64GB version starts at $749 with 128GB and 256GB variants incoming.

The new Apple Watch also makes some important advances to the devices’ health features. The phones have a better sound experience that actually plays well through the speakers. “Think a bigger display in a smaller design at 6.1”, and scrolls “super fast”. That means Face ID, too, and no Touch ID.

The XR is only a single lens camera system, but has a wide angle like those found on iPhone X.

There’s a slightly better screen, some improved water resistance and Apple’s new A12 Bionic processor to make everything run that little bit faster. Made from 7000 series aerospace grade aluminium, it comes in white, black, blue, and coral yellow. The new iPhones are available for pre-order starting Friday and will be in Apple stores (cue the line-ups) starting September 21.
