Federal Bureau of Investigation probe ordered, Donnelly announces vote against Kavanaugh — IN Focus

“I do think something bad happened to Dr. Ford and I’m very sorry, but I do not believe Judge Kavanaugh was involved or had anything to do with it and that’s why I will support (Kavanaugh’s) nomination”, Kennedy said in a phone interview with Louisiana reporters. The FBI has been asked to complete its investigation in a week, meaning the confirmation of Kavanaugh, 53, as Supreme Court judge would be delayed by at least a week. A person familiar with the matter told CNN that Senate Republicans drafted the initial list of people it wanted the FBI to interview in the investigation and gave the list to the White House.

NBC had reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was barred from investigating claims by Julie Swetnick, the third woman who has come forward publicly with decades-old allegations against Kavanaugh.

The committee chairman, Sen. Kavanaugh denies the allegations. “It has been from the beginning, and we’re letting the Senate continue to dictate what the terms look like”.

“What would’ve been more persuasive to me was to hear him being open to exploring and open to having point of views and open to having a greater conversations with more people involved”, she said.

“It will be limited in scope”, Conway said.

She added that who will be interviewed was “up to the FBI” in its expanded background investigation into Kavanaugh.

One of the women accusing Kavanaugh of misconduct, Christine Blasey Ford, told the Senate Judiciary Committee last week that when they were teenagers in 1982, Kavanaugh and a friend pushed her into a room and that he held her down and tried to take off her clothes. I told it because I recognized in Dr. Ford’s story that she is telling the truth. An FBI spokeswoman declined to comment Sunday.

Ramirez’s lawyer, John Clune, said agents want to interview her and she has agreed to cooperate.

Judge said in a statement that he categorically denies Swetnick’s allegations. Judge has said in written statements that he does not recall the incident; Senate Republicans declined to call him to testify.

A third woman, Julie Swetnick, accused Kavanaugh and Judge of excessive drinking and inappropriate treatment of women in the early 1980s, among other accusations.

Agents also will likely pursue P.J. Smyth and Leland Ingham Keyser, who Ford said also attended the party.

“We make this request because of the ABA’s respect for the rule of law and due process under law, ” the ABA letter to committee leadership said. “I mean, come on”.

Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) charged Sunday that Sen. Susan Collins and Alaska GOP Sen.

“They have betrayed her”.

“But boy, I had to put myself in that spot, you know”.

“Not a chance”, Flake responded. Jeff Flake urged his Republican colleagues to allow a one-week FBI investigation into the Kavanaugh allegations.

“It was anger”, Flake said.

After Ford appeared before the Judiciary Committee, Trump said her testimony was “very compelling” and that she appeared to be “certainly a very credible witness”.

Democrats had repeatedly demanded an FBI investigation since Ford’s allegation surfaced a few weeks ago, and they hammered at the issue throughout Thursday’s hearing. “It was nearly hard to know which to listen to more because the things coming in were so striking”, he said of Ford’s testimony. “And I thought there was a tough dynamic there”.

Jeff Flake is scheduled to appear in Boston next week
