Klopp proud of Liverpool after ‘very intense’ run

After starting the season with seven straight wins, though, Liverpool have now failed to win in any of their last four matches as the upcoming global break comes at the right time for Jurgen Klopp’s men. On Thursday night, the players fed off the atmosphere and it took them to a really high level. Liverpool can make a statement tomorrow if they can beat Pep Guardiola’s side. After last season’s procession for City, 2018-19 should be more competitive. In the league, City has clicked into gear and are already top of the Premier League table only dropping points away to Wolves at the end of August. They want to win, be it training or games, they can both finish, they score big goals, they’re relentless in the way they play. After strengthening significantly in the summer, the expectation will be on Liverpool in getting a result with the hope of reclaiming the league title for the first time since the 89/90 season.

“Last year we won the last three games against City, twice in the Champions League and one in the league”.

City’s last win at Anfield came all the way back in May 2003 but victory for the visitors today will see them move three points ahead of Jürgen Klopp’s side in the race for the Premier League title. Manchester City arguably have the best midfield in the Premier League, and the only possible way of beating them is stifling them for time and space, something Liverpool showed in the League and the Champions League outings last season. This should be no different.

“So if you want to win that league, you’re going to have to do it yourself”. This was a very good game and the City games (have been) very good games.

“What I find, even with the young age groups, is that on worldwide duty, it’s 10 days away, they’re away from their families, they train nowhere near the intensity than they do at their clubs, then they are sat around all afternoon or evening, some of them eating because they are bored”.

‘But we need to look at our away form.

“The team have put in good performances and have been strong”.

‘I thought we were sensational.

“The other thing to remember is that every game has been a competition game, so we’ve been under pressure at every minute”.

“When we came back from global break last time, it was so hard”, he said.

They were rare blips in an outstanding season and Guardiola is determined to prevent Liverpool building momentum in such fashion again by fighting fire with fire.
