Liguori: Off Yet Another Major Disappointment, Tiger Puts On A courageous Face

Woods had committed to the coming week’s Wyndham Championship, his hand forced by the Friday night entry deadline, but his comments after his round Saturday suggested that he might be prepared to call it a season after 28 rounds spread over 10 events. He must finish first or second to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs, which begin with The Barclays in two weeks. That just goes to show how good Jordan Spieth is this year.

Woods has not won on the PGA Tour since the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, his fifth victory of the year. That, to me, is fun. “People have been asking me is it your season, and could this be my season”, he said. “And to have the control that I need to have going forward, it’s starting to come back”. In the first round at Chamber Bay, and the US Open, he bogeyed the sixth hole to go one over for the tournament.

Woods shot 37 on the front, then made four straight pars on the back and was facing the tough up and down on 14 when the sirens blew to halt play. And unfortunately, I’m potentially missing out on the playoffs.

Now that the PGA Championship is officially underway, the FedEx Cup playoffs are the next thing on the minds of golf fans everywhere.

Spieth quipped that the pressure of contending in the majors was the cause of his receding hairline. When the man who once seemed a lock to break Jack Nicklaus’ record for career majors is just trying to get back to “a level I can practice and play at again”, golf is a vastly different game than the one Woods revolutionized in the last two decades.

“I hit it good enough to be where I needed to be, but I putted bad”.

Tiger Woods on Monday confirmed his participation in this week’s Wyndham Championship, after previously hedging his bet on whether he would play the PGA Tour event in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Well, after previous year, it was a bit of a surprise to see Billy Horschel come away with the $10,000,00o prize.

At Whistling Straits last week, he said his game building, and that he found a key to his putting Saturday morning “but the damage had already been done”.

Mickelson’s 65 was matched by U.S. compatriot Boo Weekley who moved into a group, which also included McIlroy, Charl Schwartzel and Japan’s Hiroshi Iwata, at 6-under-par.

Woods shot a 75 on Thursday and was only able to get to 73 on Friday which is why he is missing the cut this weekend in Wisconsin.

It’s been a lean couple of years for the 45-year-old lefty who last won a major in 2013.

The crowds that follow Woods around may not be as prodigious as they once were, but they were easily still the largest for any pairing on the golf course.
