Kilo, with sustained winds of up to 30 miles per hour (48 kilometers per hour), was centered roughly 520 miles (835 km) south of Honolulu by Saturday at 5 a.m. (1500 GMT), moving west-northwest at about 17 mph (28 kph), the NWS said.

The forecast thus far shows Kilo significantly slowing of the west-northwest motion by day three. A turn toward the northwest is expected on Sunday.
At 5 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm Kilo was located about 535 miles south-southeast of Hilo.
With this forecast track, a landfalling hurricane is not forecast, however it would be close enough to cause some damage on Kauai. If this development fails to occur, then Kilo will become a post-tropical remnant low. While forecasters say this would be quite surprising, it’s not unheard of.
The type of track forecast is uncommon for systems to take in the central Pacific.
“There is considerable uncertainty as to where this system will make its turn toward the north, so people in Hawaii should continue to pay attention to the forecast and be ready for any changes over the next few days”, Robert Ballard of the National Weather Service and the hurricane center told Hawaii News Now. Easterly wind shear is helping to tear the system a part a bit. “We strongly encourage the public to take advantage of the weekend to prepare their homes and families as this aggressively active hurricane season continues”. In either case it looks like then-Hurricane Kilo will bring a week of disturbed weather to the state, in the form of potentially gusty winds and heavy rainfall, especially for Ni’ihau and Kauai. Should it pass west of this boundary, it would technically shift into the western Pacific. Seven tropical systems have formed or crossed into the Central Pacific basin so far this year.
