Florida gun range to serve booze?

A proposed Daytona Beach business that would combine a restaurant and shooting range will now be allowed to serve alcohol.

City commissioners approved a measure to open the gun range and restaurant, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.

As for people who visit the gun range without going to the restaurant beforehand, it was said they will have to sign affidavits stating they are not drunk or under the influence of drugs.

Safety is obviously key and number one for not only me, but everyone else there. If so, they will not be allowed to shoot.

Additionally, guns will not be allowed inside of the planned restaurant, Perkinson said.

Gun range users can bring their own weapons to shoot as well. Perkinson said he fully understands the concerns and criticisms, and insists he is not mixing shooting and drinking. I’m trying to give you a nice meal before you go home. “If you choose to have an alcoholic beverage and go home, that’s on you”. There was one detractor, Commissioner Ruth Trager, who pointed out whether the Florida gun range owner would be able to tell if a patron was sober or if they were a felon, reports the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Commissioner Rob Gilliland noted other shooting ranges in the area had fewer safety precautions in place and yet few problems were reported at those establishments.

He told commissioners he’ll keep a watch list of customers who may cause trouble and will call police when necessary.
