Spurs still winless, Leicester unbeaten after 1-1 EPL draw

I watched him a long time ago when he played for Udinese.

Danny Drinkwater – 7/10: The Leicester middle-man has had a superb opening to the season and is slowly proving himself as a suitable Premier League footballer after spending much of past year on the bench.

Spurs went into the game without playmaker Christian Eriksen, who was ruled out with a knee injury, although Kane was passed fit after being withdrawn during the 2-2 draw with Stoke City last weekend.

There had been little early indication that this match would reach such a hectic conclusion. Marc Albrighton threatened with a mazy dart from the left flank into the Tottenham penalty area but he cut across his shot and the ball flew wide of the far post just before the players took a water break midway through the first half. If they could sort out their defensive issues the side that gave the team their 2-0 lead against Stoke could look to avenge their capitulation.

It should be a close battle between the two teams as the last four matches between Tottenham and Leicester have resulted in two wins for each.

The Dane’s absence meant the service to Harry Kane was patchy.

Mahrez’s wonderful strike spared Ranieri from his first defeat at Leicester City and leaves Spurs still looking for their first victory of the season.

Inler, a £5m recruit from Napoli, was handed his debut with 10 minutes to go, only for his new side to fall behind seconds after his entrance. I think they played very well last season, they signed some very good players, got good organisation. Fifteen minutes after that, he made the desired impact, scoring his first goal for Spurs.

Late goals from Dele Alli and Riyad Mahrez lit up an otherwise largely forgettable draw, as Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester were denied a small piece of club history. “The fans were great as they have been all season”. Lloris saves Spurs with a save from point blank range after Wes Morgan thumped a header from Mahrez’s cross straight at the Spurs keeper.

The 1-1 draw was no more than the Black Cats deserved from a much-improved performance, although they might still have emerged empty-handed had it not been for the heroics of goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon as the visitors pushed for the win.

“For me, it’s hard to explain the way we conceded the goal, because we know how they play“. We conceded a goal but our spirit was fantastic.

The English Premier League enters the third round of matches and at the time of writing, there have not been many eyebrow-raising moments save for the consistently good performances put in by newly-promoted Leicester and a not-so-good display by reigning champions Chelsea.
