According to Brendan Kuty of the Newark Star-Ledger, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that he received a positive report on the outing. The first two days were really bad, the last two days really good. “If I keep getting better at this pace, I’ll be fine in a few days”. Once he can run on his leg, Teixeira believes he’ll be able to return to the lineup.

Moosic, Pa. – New York Yankees star right-hander Michael Pineda will make a rehabilitation appearance for the SWB RailRiders on Friday, August 21, when the club hosts the Rochester Red Wings at 7:05 p.m. Coming back from a right forearm strain, Pineda threw 42 pitches in a start with the Trenton Thunder on Sunday, August 16. “I don’t worry so much about the pitch count, because I think his arm is in shape, but just to make sure he feels sharp”.

Earlier in the year, Girardi dismissed the notion of the Yankees going to a six-man rotation because of a lack of roster flexibility, but when asked about it this week, Girardi acknowledged it as a possibility.

“It’s been a lot of days in a row and it’s a day game after a night game”, Girardi said of resting A-Rod, who had homered twice in his previous four games, including a go-ahead grand slam Tuesday against the Twins. “I just felt like he could use a day”. Ellsbury was hitting.361/378/.528 in eight games since then, posting five multi-hit games during that stretch.
