A new Iowa Workforce Development report issued Friday shows our unemployment rate increased slightly in July. The state’s jobless rate has fallen in six out of the last seven months, and has been drifting down consistently since peaking in early 2010.

“The expansion continues to be in the area of finance and insurance, particularly health insurance”, said Shanker. The largest significant over-the-year job increase occurred in California (+494,300), followed by Florida (+271,500) and Texas (+260,500). The industries in this sector include traditional publishing as well as software publishing; motion pictures and broadcasting; and telecommunications.

Employment estimates for July 2015 were based on the new data plus seasonal adjustments.

Nevada’s unemployment rate remains below 7 percent, taking another slight dip in July.

As expected, there were job losses statewide between June and July in leisure and hospitality, with little tourism in much of the Arizona. Unemployment was lowest in Charleston and Lexington counties, which both posted rates of 5.3 percent.

There were more 2.614 million private sector jobs in Indiana in July, compared to the previous record of 2.612 set in March 2000.
