Al-Shabaab bomb attack kills 11 in S. Somalia

At least 21 people were killed in two separate suicide auto attacks in Somalia on Saturday, one in Mogadishu and another at a military training base in the southern port city of Kismayu, police and military sources said. He added that almost 50 others were wounded in the attack.

The explosion which was used a vehicle laden with bomb explosives hit army training center where Somalia soldiers are prepared for war against Al Shabaab militants.

A senior military official in Kismayo, Col. Mohamed Hassan, said at least 10 soldiers died in the attack. May Allah accept him, ‘ the group said in a statement.

A Kenyan soldier was among the dead while over 30 other Somalia National Army recruits sustained injuries in the morning attack. For example, AP reported 10 soldiers had been killed by the militants in Kismayo.

The Islamist militant group has lost control of most of its territory to African Union troops in recent years but has stepped up attacks in Mogadishu and elsewhere.

African Union troops are working with Somalian military forces to combat al-Shabab in Somalia. The outlet also said a Somali military commander, Abdi Sheikh Ibrahim, was among those killed in a “hit-and-run” attack.

Al Shabaab insurgents have staged a string of assaults in their fight to overthrow the country’s internationally-backed government.
