Swatch has trademarked the legendary line that Steve Jobs made famous

The company has acquired a European trademark for “One more thing”, the phrase made famous by Steve Jobs.

Before his death, Jobs was renowned for introducing a surprise (although frequently not so surprising) extra at the end of a presentation.

It’s been almost four years since the death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, and no matter how many bad Ashton Kutcher-starring biopics, New York City plays and massive 656-page biographical tomes are thrown our way, he’s still a truly hard and complex person to understand. As of today, the trademark is registered across 44 countries. There are no suggestions yet that Swatch is on the verge of releasing a smartwatch, but the patent would be great for use in advertising an Apple Watch competitor.

While running Apple, Jobs was known to precede new product announcements and introductions with the phrase “there is one more thing” in his keynote addresses. Swatch said that consumers could easily confuse the iWatch and iSwatch names, and promised to take legal action against Apple if necessary. German-language publications picked up on Swatch’s plans to trademark the saying back in January, but it looks as though the trademark was originally filed in November 2014. Swiss watch makers have been threatened by the Apple Watch, which could affect sales of their high-end watches.

While the use of the line didn’t start with Jobs – he was quoting US actor Peter Falk in the role of the legendary Commissioner Columbo – people tend to associate the phrase with him. There is also a possibility that Swatch may want to troll Apple by including the phrase in its future ad campaigns.
