Tiger Woods misses cut for third straight time in majors

With easier scoring conditions at Whistling Straits on Friday, there was the possibility that Woods could string some birdies together, shoot an under-par number, and make the cut for the first time in three majors.

Woods, a four-times victor of the PGA Championship, planned to head off to the practice area to work on his putting once his media commitments were over.

But there he was joking.

“I’m going to go home and watch the leaders tee off and play”, he said. Woods will always draw an enormous gallery, even if it’s far more likely that he’ll miss the cut than it is that he’ll win the tournament (and that’s clearly the case now).

Daly, whose fame began when he won the PGA as the ninth alternate in 1991, opened the day on No. 10 with a bogey, got to even par with a birdie on the par-16th, but made double on No. 18.

Tiger Woods crashed again, and you want to know the worst part of his latest two-and-barbecue at a golf major? He has entered into next week’s Wyndham Championship – where he has never previously appeared – but is not fully committed to playing.

“I just had no feel at all for the speed (on the greens)”. We’ll just have to see what happens. Dustin Johnson collapsed at the US Open on the final day this year whilst Rory McIlroy blew his chances of the green jacket in 2011.

He will not qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs.

At this PGA Championship, Woods said his putting befuddled him.

Woods returned to the course after play was suspended Friday and completed his round Saturday, finishing at 4-over par 148.

From his battle at year’s start with serious chipping woes, to a back issue at the Farmers Insurance Open, there have been few bright moments to build upon, but Woods is seizing on what he says he’s feeling.

Woods, 39, is in the midst of his worst year as a professional. “It’s been one or the other“. He went from the chip yips to driving troubles.

Jason Day flirted with the single-round record at a major Saturday in the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits. And came back at Augusta and had my short game back.

“I kept to the game plan, struck it the way I wanted to”, said Woods, although he hit just seven of 14 fairways in regulation. “If I don’t, then I have more time to practice and get ready for the following events, for the next season and obviously some of the things I do on a global level”. I just haven’t done that. He’s also planning to play in the Hero Challenge that he hosts in December, which moves to the Bahamas this year after being held in Orlando last year, and there will be no shortage of invitations worldwide. Unfortunately, I’m potentially missing out on the playoffs. “Only way you can do that is by playing, and as I said, I have a lot of golf to be played around the world”.

The confidence is growing quickly.

“I hit it good enough to be where I needed to be, but I putted very bad”, Woods, who totaled 28 putts in the second round after piling up 33 in the first, told reporters.
