Horsey has led since Thursday but he was reined in on Saturday courtesy of three bogeys on the back nine while Australia’s Terry Pilkadaris carded a fine third round 65.

Heading into the weekend with a three-shot lead, Horsey birdied three of his opening four holes before extending briefly extending his advantage by sliding in an eagle putt at the par-five sixth.

Parry made a superb start to his second round and reached 11 under after sinking six birdies in his first 15 holes.

Scotland’s former Open champion Paul Lawrie was a shot further back on six under.

“I didn’t have a clue that I was seven clear”, Horsey said.

“After that it was just about getting to my strategy and finishing strongly, and I managed to do that”. He looked set to take a share of the clubhouse lead until bogeying the last. “Luckily I got a good score but there are three more days to go”.

After making the putt, Harto motioned to his girlfriend to come on to the green, and then he got down on one knee and proposed to her! Then, with his home country crowd cheering him on, Harto waved down his girlfriend and, after a few seconds of cajoling, brought her inside the ropes.

Welshman Oliver Farr, who began the day second, finished with two birdies to shoot level-par 71 and sit on seven under alongside Ireland’s Peter Lawrie, who signed for a 69.
