“We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever”, the American businessman said.

During a presentation to a packed house of industry insiders and Star Wars fans at the event, Disney president Bob Iger, said: “I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the next 60 years of parks and resorts than with Star Wars Land“.

While these new Star Wars attractions will be the biggest to ever appear at Disneyland and Disney World, they’re not technically the first.

The 6-hectare Star Wars additions will be in Orlando, next to Disney Hollywood Studios, and in Anaheim, next to Disneyland.

The Force Awakens is the first in a new Star Wars trilogy, due to be finished by 2019.

Disney shared mockups of the park on its official Twitter account shortly after the announcement.

And in early 2016, guests can also ride Hyperspace Mountain, which is the classic Space Mountain ride reimagined as an X-wing Starfighter in battle.

As previously reported, the plans for the Star Wars-themed attractions have been planned since the company acquired the franchise.

While no new footage or trailer was shown at the D23 Expo this past weekend for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney and Lucasfilm did unveil a new poster painted by Drew Struzan for the movie, due out December 18.

Star Wars fans will be treated to two main attractions: the chance to participate in an epic battle and control the Millennium Falcon on a special secret mission”, the source noted.

But he added: “Nothing will be out of character or stray from the mythology”. There were also many props and costumes at the Expo which attendees were able to view, and Harrison Ford made an appearance to promote the film.
