By the third inning’s conclusion, every position player in the Mets lineup had an extra-base hit with the exception of Friday’s hero, Cespedes.

Cespedes answered with a solo shot off Rockies reliever Christian Bergman into center field in the top of the fourth to give the Mets an 8-1 lead.
It seemed like a questionable decision to keep Colon in the game after the injury, and judging by the size of the bruised lump, it’s possible his next start could be in jeopardy.

With Daniel Murphy on base, Cespedes responded again. New York hit two more home runs against Gonzalez Germen in the seventh, both of the solo variety from Travis d’Arnaud and Conforto, to extend the lead to 12-8.

Gilmartin did yeoman’s work for the Mets’ limited bullpen, bailing them out after Colon’s second shortest start of the season – he went just 2.1 innings against the Padres last month.
