A day after the escape of a Bengal tiger from its enclosure in Hyderabad’s Nehru Zoological park, senior officials of Telangana forest department launched a probe to establish the cause of the incident. “We have administered a tranquiliser to doze it (tiger) off. Kadamba (the tiger) was again put back in the cage”, a Zoo official told PTI.

How the tiger managed to come out of the cage is not immediately known. An internal inquiry was ordered on security lapses if any, he added.
According to zoo officials, the tiger gained temporary freedom while being shifted to another enclosure.
Hundreds of visitors including children had to run for their lives on a busy Saturday afternoon when the tiger escaped from the enclosure and zookeepers raised an alarm by blowing whistles.
Set up in 1963, this is the first zoo in the country to have animals arranged in zoological order in mostly open enclosures in near natural ambiance to make animals feel “at home”. After a gruelling time, the effort of one hour bore fruit and the tiger was finally tranquillised and shifted to the enclosure it was it be moved.

However, the incident sent panic among weekend visitors in the sprawling zoo. On an average, 15 lakh people visit the zoo annually.
