Earlier this morning WeatherUnderground forecasters said that while so-called “invest 96-L” has a “reasonable shot” at becoming a tropical storm, it has an uphill battle in front of it.

Tropical Storm Danny may become a hurricane by Friday, according to the 11 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center. Danny now has maximum sustained winds of 115 miles per hour, with higher gusts.
“This system is one of the most impressive to emerge off the West Africa coast so far this season”, according to the Department of Disaster Management.

The Tropical Depression has formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean about 1,665 miles east of the Windward Islands.
Still, Noll said he wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes a tropical depression or weak tropical storm in the next week. A westward to west-northwestward movement at slightly slower speed was expected over the next four days. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Danny is expected to become a hurricane by Thursday.
During El Niño years, we typically see fewer named storms, but that doesn’t mean a storm won’t be strong.
Current model data is showing the progression of this storm towards the west and eventually the west-north-west approaching the Lesser Antilles by the end of the week. This means it is too early to determine if there will be any impacts to Florida or the United States.

Ultimately there is no way to know where Danny will go beyond the next 5 days or even if Danny will survive the issues ahead of it next week.
